What initially drew you to coaching, and how has your own personal journey shaped your approach as a coach?

My professional journey began in New York as a pediatric social worker. Upon moving to Hong Kong, I explored diverse career paths, gaining experience in teaching, relocation, and real estate. Throughout these transitions, a deep-seated passion for health and personal development was a constant undercurrent. Across all these varied experiences, a consistent theme was my profound desire to truly listen and empower others. When I truly understood the essence of coaching, it resonated deeply within me. I realized it wasn't about 'fixing' people, being an 'expert' or providing all the answers, but about cultivating a deep human connection, offering genuine presence, and enabling clients to tap into their own inherent wisdom and boundless potential. My own rich tapestry of life experiences has profoundly shaped this approach, granting me unique perspectives and the ability to truly see and understand each client I work with.

Do you have an established coaching practice / business and what is it called? Do you have a coaching niche that you specialize in? What is your website?

I have been a certified health and wellness coach for three years. My practice is called Wellness Through Coaching and I am based in Hong Kong. I work primarily with women, but I can't say I have yet to identify a particular niche. My website is www.wellnessthroughcoaching.com

Did you get certified / accredited by any coaching schools / institutions? If so which one(s) and what attracted you to their program / accreditation?

Yes, I am accredited through the Chris Kresser ADAPT program and I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach through NBHWC.

How did you set up your coaching practice and what challenges / wins have you encountered in the process? Any tips for new coaches just starting out to get their business registered?

While every country and state has its distinct business formation guidelines, a key early consideration for any coach is a deeply personal one: whether to embark on building your own independent practice, or contributing to an established group or medical practice. This is a choice I've wrestled with myself, having found working independently can sometimes feel a bit isolating.

I'm increasingly discovering the profound enjoyment and benefits that come from working within a supportive community.

What coaching tools / applications / platforms do you use to help you stay focused and streamlined in managing your practice, especially if you're a solo / small business owner without a big budget for expenses?

I use CoachVantage which I have found to be so helpful in organizing everything in one place; client information, billing, forms, contracts, automation and the templates provided have been great.

How do you typically acquire clients / market yourself to grow your business? What has worked best for you and what pitfalls should be avoided?

My practice has primarily grown through the power of word of mouth referrals, which I see as a testament to the trust and positive experiences clients have had.

While actively marketing my services is an area I'm focusing on developing to further expand my reach, a significant part of my time is also dedicated to volunteering and working with refugee women. This impactful work not only enriches my life but also deeply informs my coaching perspective.

What's the most transformative shift you've witnessed in a client thanks to your coaching? Can you share the specific approach or tools you used? For eg, do you use any coaching models or specific techniques?

It's interesting, as my coaching practice evolves, I find my approach is less about a single prescribed technique and more about intuitive responsiveness. I prioritize deeply understanding where a client is in their journey, without preconceived notions, and building our strategy from that authentic starting point. I also believe that as coaches, we are perpetual learners; this constant curiosity and integration of new insights keep my approach fresh, adaptable, and ensures I'm always expanding my capacity to serve my clients effectively.

How do you maintain your own self-care and emotional well-being while supporting others through theirs?

Getting outside in nature totally fuels me, so I make sure to fit that into my day. I'm definitely a morning person, so usually, weather permitting, that's how I kick off my day. But if life gets in the way and I miss a few days, my nervous system really starts to feel it.
